U-Haul Risk Management Team is seeking a full-time Incident Specialist for our First Responder business units. There are multiple subjects and various components to incident and accident management on Risk Management team. Fundamental components:
  • Incident assessments. Through research and reporting received at initial intake identify level of urgency and any immediate support/help to be provided as well as identification of initial risk components to promptly address
  • Classification of incidents, identification of other initial U-Haul business constituents, and subsequent dissemination to those other U-Haul business units for their action
  • Ownership, monitoring, tracking and communication: Handle, coordinate and overall management of certain activities to provide service and support toward resolution and recovery
  • Close the loop on specific actions
    This position carries significant responsibility for directly handling incident assignments within a variety of our First Responder programs. Additionally, this work is grooming this specialist for advancement including management of First Responder Programs. The program areas involved presently include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Disaster Prevention/Recovery- This work deals with events such as floods, hurricanes and fires at U-Haul facilities. This individual will be assigned work on most every event to directly handle, coordinate and manage certain activities. Availability after hours (remotely using electronic tools) on short notice is a must as disaster prevention and recoveries arise that require immediate attention. Travel with short notice is required to work hands on, in the U-Haul Field approximately 10 times a year (typically 3-5 days per trip depending on severity).
  • Incidents/Accidents/Operations- This work deals with incidents and accidents that include but are not limited to: Equipment rentals, equipment theft, occurrences on U-Haul premises, third party injuries, claims and researching for potentially related operational considerations. Responsibilities include identifying and working with appropriate U-Haul Field Teams as well as other U-Haul Organization support teams who need to participate in assistance, resolution and operational enhancements. This individual will directly handle certain actions, and is required to document and close the loop on coordinated efforts. This work is assigned on a shared rotation basis, and requires a dedicated after hours’ rotation approximately one week out of four to six weeks.
  • Risk management work is very detail oriented, requires significant research, study, assessments and integration with a broad range of business programs throughout the U-Haul organization, claims and litigation. This specialist will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of Team Members and subject matter experts including executive management, and have the responsibility, accountability and authority to contribute to and make thoughtful business decisions. The position demands gaining a strong understanding of specifics within a broad range of U-Haul programs, superior service be provided, requires strong personal leadership, and precise reports for management.
